Masao founded Expedition Labs to give companies senior engineering at the speed coding agents make possible. He sets the studio's engineering standards and stays close to every engagement, so the person accountable for the result is the person who decides what ships.

An engineer first, for more than two decades.
Masao has spent more than two decades building software that has to hold up in production. He began in advertising technology, at Yahoo! Search Marketing and then The Rubicon Project, on platforms serving thousands of publishers and carrying millions of dollars in revenue a day.
Since 2010 he has also led software engineering for computer science at Loyola Marymount University, where he builds the systems behind teaching and research, brought AI-assisted development into the program, and mentors the next generation of engineers.
Expedition Labs brings those two halves together: the rigor of systems that cannot fail quietly, and a teacher's habit of writing the rules down. Masao holds an MS and a BS in computer science from Loyola Marymount University and is based in Los Angeles.
